Is Your Web Site a Comic Book?

All too often, a web site breaks one of the cardinal rules of web design: Don’t use Comic Sans as your font! Anywhere! Not only is this infamous font found on web sites, it also makes appearances in email signatures, and printed newsletters and brochures. Why is this font so dreadful? First, have you ever taken a close look at Comic Sans? Here, let’s take a look. Hi. I’m a sentence written in Comic Sans. Just take a moment and look at it. Observe it’s playfully swiggle-like tone. Now, ask yourself this question: Is this a font you would want to employ on a professional web site? Is your target audience the type who wants to see playful swiggles? Of course not! If you intend on marketing yourself as a serious solution for serious people, Comic Sans will not accomplish this. Your web site should be important. Don’t treat it like a comic book (unless it is a comic book!).
